Thanks mom! Celebrating motherhood.

May means Mother’s Day: A reminder to acknowledge the women in your life who have shaped who you are today.

By Amber McKenna, on May 11, 2011 | 0 comments

Mothers, the rock, the hard place, the voice of reason, the best friend—or whatever yours is to you, we’ve all got one in some way, shape or form.

Mothers stats
Did you know?
- There are 2 billion moms in the world, and 82.5 million in the United States.
- 48% of Facebook users say they are Facebook friends with their mother.
- An average of 4.3 babies are born each second.
- In 2008, 82 percent of women age 40-44 had given birth, compared to 90 percent in 1976.

A wise woman once said…
“A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie." - Tenneva Jordan, author

Becoming mom
The phrase (or variations of) “I’ll never become my mother” have been uttered by women world-wide. But recent research shows that women become like their mothers—whether they like it or not.

A study (albeit not the most scientific study) by Hallmark Cards polled 1,000 men and women in the UK, and among their results revealed 32 as the age we most commonly turn into our mothers.

Traits of turning into mothers included using mom’s favorite sayings, worrying more, being more outspoken and using similar movements.

Surprisingly, one third of men polled also said they were aware of becoming increasingly like mom.

Half of people polled admitted they felt they were turning into their mom. The majority said they find themselves using the words of their mother when scolding someone, looking after loved ones, or muttering to themselves.

“At 32, most women have a child or are thinking about having a child and they become what their mothers were,” behavioral expert Joachim de Posada said in the New York Post.
Or maybe, we just finally realize that after years and years of fighting what mom said, she was right all along.
